Graduate Diplomas are generally designed for specific vocational purposes.
These are either:

1. the broadening of skills and knowledge already gained in an undergraduate program; or
2. vocational skills and knowledge in a new professional area.

They typically follow a bachelor’s degree.

Graduate Diploma courses may be a part of a continuum of studies in a specific subject area (an articulated course), offering a student progression from a Graduate Certificate to a Graduate Diploma and/or from a Graduate Diploma to a Master’s Degree by coursework.

The university system in Australia is based on the British university tradition but with elements derived from the United States and Europe.

The universities are part of the world wide network of universities and are member of such bodies as the association of Common–Wealth Universities. There are 39 universities in Australia, 37 of which receive funding by the government for teaching and basic research functions. Students who attend English universities usually do a three year course to earn a bachelor’s degree, whether it be an ordinary degree or an honours degree. There are also sandwich courses which offer work placement whereby student work for a short period of time in a relevant industry before completing their studies. Taking a sandwich course may make the degree last a year longer than otherwise. English universities specialise subjects throughout the entire degree. The Oxbridge universities (Oxford University and Cambridge University) which are amongst the world’s oldest universities are generally ranked at or near the top of all UK universities. (more…)

England, Wales and Northern Ireland, primary school education is compulsory from age 5. Children most commonly enter Reception Class aged 4 in the academic year in which they will reach their 5th birthday. The remaining years are called Year 1, Year 2, etc, up to year 6. It is normal for a single teacher to teach pupils throughout the year, encompassing all subjects including an introductory course in a modern European language. Primary school education may be divided into Infant (ages 4-7) and Junior (ages 7-11) school. At the end of the Infant School, pupils sit Key Stage 1 SATs with Key Stage 2 SATs taken at the end of Year 6. At the age of 14, children sit the Key Stage 3 exams. (more…)

The primary goal of the Teacher Cadet program is to encourage students who possess exemplary interpersonal, academic and leadership skills to consider teaching as a career. An important secondary goal is to provide these talented future community leaders with insights about teaching and schools so that they will be civic advocates for education.

Teacher Cadet (TC) is a high school curriculum developed and licensed by the South Carolina Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement (CERRA). Schools may implement the program by selecting a qualified teacher to complete the Colorado summer Teacher Cadet training.

Requirements for teachers’ certificate vary among 50 states. Usually the state department of education, or a state certification board, issues certificates which permit teachers to be employed within the state. Forty-four of the 50 states require at least the completion of a four-year course, with the bachelor’s degree, as a minimum for high school teaching: the tendency to require a fifth year beyond the bachelor’s degree is increasing. Graduation from a two-year normal school or at least two years of college education is the minimum requirement for elementary teaching in 36 states; others demand the completion of a four-year course and the bachelor’s degree. Harvard College was established in 1636, with the principal purpose of providing a literate ministry1 for colonial churches. It was a small institution, enrolling only 20 students in 1642 and 60 in 1660. It soon became more than a theological training school2 and established itself as a liberal arts college. The next institution of higher learning established in the American colonies was the College of William and Mary, which opened in 1693 at Williamsburg, Virginia. Other colleges were founded in the next century, but all of them remained small schools for long periods. Students entered at the age of 14 and remained until they were 18, and the curriculum, while rigidly academic and classic was by modern standards rather secondary in nature. (more…)

It has become common for the college program to be divided into broad fields,such as languages and literature,the social sciences,the sciences and mathematics, and the fine arts.Many colleges require all freshmen and sophomores to take one or two full-year courses in each of three fields.Certain Courses,such as English or history,may be required for all,with some election permitted in the other fields.

Elementary Schools, High Schools and Institutions of Higher Learning

There are eight years of elementary schooling. The elementary school is followed by four years of secondary school, or high school. Often the last two years of elementary and the first years of secondary school are combined into a junior high school.
The school year is nine months in length, beginning early in September and sometimes a shorter one in spring. There are slight variations from place to place. Students enter the first grade at the age of six and attendance is compulsory in most states until the age of sixteen or until the student has finished the eighth grade. (more…)
